My FIRST paying job was shoveling driveways one winter, and the payment was, I GOT TO KEEP THE SNOW! YAY! I carried the snow back to my yard wheelbarrow-by-wheelbarrow and built the biggest snow fort you've ever seen, much to my mother's dismay. She made me dig a tunnel from the front door to the mailbox so she could still get the mail.

at 9 years old I would sell cherrys I would pick from our cherry tree in the back yard and the years between the cherry tree yeilds I would sell english walnuts from the back yard as well.  By the pound of course.  Then at 11 I had a small icey business out in front of the house where people would get off work from a factory next door to our house.  I would shave the ice with the old fashion ice scrapers and put it in a cone and cover with syrup, ie grape, lemon, cherry, etc.  Then at 12 I had the paper route to that same factory. And then at 16 I started with a grocery store as a stock boy.  I bought my first 3 speed bike with money from my paper route.  I bought it via layaway from Western Auto.  And my first car from the money I made at the grocery job.  Well, that's more than you asked for.  Sorry

My first job was delivering the local newspaper on a small paper route. While I was walking the route I would listen to Amy Grant on my walkman. One of my favorite songs at that time was "Old Man's Rumble." If you have that song in your studio, would you be able to play that on air?

Thank you to K*LOVE and Amy Grant for being a Blessing and inspiration in my life! Hopefully one day I will be able to meet Amy Grant. I have been to 2 of her concerts in the Omaha, NE area and when I was younger I was a member of her fan club. She truely is an inspirational woman doing the work of Our Lord and Saviour.

Hi my name is Charles Johnson My first paying Job was when I was 16 years Old the county road department paid me $40 and hour for 2 hours to take and watch his crew while he went and picked up supplies and lunch for his crew, the reason this is so memorable for me is because I was like who in their right mind would have a kid watch adults much less be supervisor over them. The boss told me if any one slacked off or sat down and goofed off while he was gone to take and tell them to go home and he would take care of it. Well sure enough a worker In his late 30's - early 40's set down and when told to get back to work or go home he replied You are not my boss and I can do what I want cause I don't have to listen to you, and also reminded me that I was just a kid and that kids are not in charge of adults and aren't allowed to work. well the boss came back and he was fired on the spot the boss paid him 2 weeks severance pay and gave him his lunch the guy left peeling off mad as all get out at me and the boss. The truth be known that was the hardest thing I have ever had to do and If I had it to do over I might not be able to God really helped me through that day and gave me patience and calmness through my storm and in my time of need. I had cried myself to sleep for several nights because all I could think of was I fired this guy that has at least 2 if not 3 kids at home to feed, recently a friend told me that you don't fire anyone they fire themselves you just make them aware of if; they know what they are supposed to do and the reprecussions if they don't.

You know how Nordstrom offers free gift wrapping during the Christmas season? Well, since I was 16 and not old enough to sell merchandise on the floor, I was the "wrapper" for almost a month and a half! After 8 hours of ribbon tying, paper cutting, and box folding, I just wanted to throw my own gifts in a bag! Good experience though Smile

My first job was working as a cashier at our local Agway.  I learned a lot about the various types of dog food, cat food, horse feed, sheep feed, cow feed, fertilizers, seeds, pesticides and any other miscellaneous farm, garden, outdoor, or generally "country" items.  One good part-- I got to socialize with a lot of different people!  The down side, I always ended up smelling like the fertilizers and pesticides that were kept in the store.

In 1974, when I was 14,  I got my first job at a nursing home.  I did all of the supper dishes for the residents and then prepared night snack trays which were custom designed for each residents special diets and dietary needs. It was a pretty cool job! I walked quite a ways to and from work, because I couldn't drive yet, and both my parents worked as well.

I got my first job when I was only fourteen at a little Amusement Park.  It was a great experience because I got to work with little kids all the time and also deal with parents, and co-oworkers in a teenager-friendly kind of place. It definitely taught me some life lessons about how the world works outside of school, which has led me to be very thankful for the fellowship of other Christians.  I worked there for three years, and now I'm only 18, just started my second job, and I already have good stuff to put on any application! My first job was helping my daddy on the ranch.  Nothing better than being on horseback under God's enormous sky, listening to the clickity clack of the horses hooves as we move along.  Seeing all of God's beauty all rolled up into a huge pasture filled with cattle.  The pay was not the best ever, but the benifits were awesome.  Wow I miss all that.  I am soon to be 60 yrs. old and he has been gone from this earth 24 almost 25 years.  God is so good to bring up such sweet memories.  Thanks guys

My first job was as a volunteer at the Hospital.  It was 1965.  I was 14 and you could go through a program and become a Candystriper.  After working two full summers of 40 hour weeks as a volunteer, I got to take another training program and become a Nurse's Aide.  Since I was 16, I could then get paid!!  The job paid $.50 an hour - yes 50 cents! but I wanted to be a nurse so it was worth it to me.  However, Nurse's Aides got to be more involved than Candystripers and my sympathy button was too close to the top and everytime someone was in pain or crying, I passed out.  So, I did not become a nurse!  I am now a Paralegal and have been working in the legal profession for 30 years helping people resolve other painful issues.
